The Girl with the Needle

I would like to present a great film that was nominated for the Best International Feature Film award at the 97th Academy Awards. It was also nominated for the 82nd Golden Globes Awards.

This film is based on a real-life, shocking crime that happened in Denmark between 1915 and 1920.
The short story is…. A woman named Caroline is an ordinary employee in a garment factory. Her husband has been serving in the military during the war and has not heard from him for over a year, so she thinks he has been killed in action, and falls in love with a wealthy man named Jahan.

So Caroline becomes pregnant with Jahan and plans to marry Jahan and start a new life with him, but Caroline is unlucky. When Jahan, a wealthy man, abandons Caroline without taking responsibility, Caroline tries to terminate the pregnancy.

After the abortion failed, a woman named Darma came to help her and told her to come find her when she gave birth. Darma said that she would send abandoned babies to foster parents for a fee, so Caroline gave the baby to Darma after she gave birth.

From there, the pace of the story gradually increased, and the shocking crime mentioned above gradually came to light. In addition, it was presented in black and white color, so you can feel the love that the film wants to give through the film. You can see why it was nominated for an Oscar in the story itself.
