Ukraine is a country that is located between East and West. Originally part of the Soviet Union, Ukraine declared independence in 1991.
But for 23 years, it has been a fragile democracy and a failing economy. In 2004, pro-Russian candidate Viktor Yanukovych won the presidency, but was forced to resign after a public outcry over alleged fraud.
In 2011, Yanukovych won the election on a promise to bring Ukraine into the EU, but then reneged on that promise and sought to align himself with Russia. The country’s refusal to sign the EU agreement sparked nationwide protests, starting with students protesting for their future in Independence Square.
The president tried to crack down on the protests with riot police and mercenaries, but the protests turned violent in the dead of winter. A revolution to overthrow a government is not easy. It is a big investment.
There were many casualties and it was only because of the people who camped in the streets of Mendon until the end that President Yanukovych fell and the Ukrainians gained true freedom.
This documentary is about the words spoken, the people who acted, and the sacrifices made during this period.
It is full of tears and heart-wrenching moments, so it is presented for your knowledge.
