World War II On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Air Force bombed the American-owned Pearl Harbor and declared war on the United States.

Therefore, the American military had to form an alliance with Britain, Russia, and France on the European front to fight the Nazis. Similarly, on the Pacific front, the Japanese who had seized the islands that were central to the war were forced to fight.

In 1942, the Japanese, who were trying to settle in Australia, were also trying to expand the South Pacific islands. They were building an airfield on Guadalcanal Island, and if this airfield was completed, they could block American support that would help Australia.
