Synopsis

The story is set in the late 18th century, during the Meji restoration (or) Westernization in Japan, when Western standards of living were introduced to Japan.

The Edo era, which had lasted from 1603 AD, began to slowly decline when Americans arrived in Japanese ports with modern weapons and military equipment. They wanted to use Japanese ports for trade and interfere in military tribunals.

The Japanese government was willing to sign a treaty with each other. The samurai did not like this cowardly act of the government.

So the samurai clans gathered together, overthrew the government, and established the modern Japanese government, the Meji government. However, a samurai leader named Katsumoto did not like the way the Meji government was established.

We are samurai. We only use swords. We do not use firearms. We never surrender. Katsumoto and some of his fellow samurai, who are on the path of death, are a headache for the new Meiji government.

Therefore, they plan to find warriors from Western countries to overthrow Katsumoto and train the Meiji government’s army. Captain Nathan Algren Captain Nathan Algren, who is famous for being a hero in the Indian vs American wars, was ordered by his superior to kill innocent women, young and old, and children in a battle.

After that battle, he left the army because he regretted what he had done. The scenes of killing children and killing women are like a nightmare.

One day, Cap Nathan Algren, a scholar, leader, and He became one of the recruits of the hero. So Nathan Algren traveled to Japan to train the Meiji army.

The final battle of the film is based on the real war (Seinan-war) in 1877. The difference between the real history and the movie is that the real The Last Samurai is not Katsumoto, but Saigo Takamori. Also, the Captain who trains with the Meiji army is Captain Jules Brunet from the French army, not the American army.

The story is really created naturally. What is really nice is that all the actors are Japanese. Initially, the plan was to use Japanese people who had come to Europe or Koreans who had military training.

The director and actor Tom Cruise strongly objected. And Tom Cruise himself trained the Japanese people who would be in the film for months, so this film gave the full flavor of a Japanese film.

Another thing I want to say is that for those who are just learning Japanese It’s a movie worth watching.. It’s slower than normal everyday conversations..
I even understand some of the words Tom Cruise says later.. This story is filmed in Hollywood style about Japan.

The director is Edward Zwick, who is a true master.. He also filmed Blood Diamond, Jack Reacher. His filming in this movie is very good.. He filmed two groups that will defend Japan in their own way, the Meiji and the Samurai. The viewer’s mind is not biased towards either side..

It clearly shows the Bushido of the Samurai.. The Meiji soldiers who are fighting for their own people are also opposed because they have different paths.. You can see how much they love their samurai tradition. My favorite is the character Katsumoto. Kenwatanabe who plays Katsumoto is a really suitable character. He has a very proud look, an impressive voice, and a completely perfect character.

I like him even more than Tom Cruise.. Another thing is the master Hans we know Zimmer..
So it’s time to put on headphones… I won’t write about the master anymore. I’ll just put on earphones and watch the movie at night and chill.
